Insurance

A sector in which the product is a promise, and the customer tests it only when a claim arises.

Two men and a woman talk at a table with documents

An insurer sells a promise and keeps it for the whole term of the contract: in the policy system, in the sales network, in claims handling and in reports to the supervisor. Each of these activities passes through systems, so their limitations show on the customer's side before they appear in the results.

In this sector our track record is building systems. For a client in the insurance industry we built and deployed a next-generation digital insurance platform. For a client in the same industry we launched, on a global scale, an online sales channel for travel insurance policies.

Key challenges of the sector

A man fills in a form at a desk

Policy systems older than the products

An insurance product is a set of conditions written down for the whole term of the contract, and the policy system has to serve every policy sold until it ends, including those sold on conditions no longer on offer. A new product or a change of tariff is therefore first a change in the system and only then a business decision, and it is the system that sets how long that decision takes.

One product, many sales channels

The same policy reaches the customer through an agent, a multi-tied agency, a bank, a comparison site and the insurer's own website, and each of these channels has a different process and different systems. The offer must be identical, the pricing the same, and the course of the sale reproducible, whichever way the customer came in.

A claim tests the whole promise

The customer learns the value of the policy only when a claim arises, and then every day counts. The case passes through the claims handler, the loss adjuster, the garage and the assistance service, and documents arrive in every form, from a phone photo to a scanned report, and someone has to piece them together into a single case file before a decision is made.

Risk pricing starts with data

The tariff rests on claims history, and claims handling records that history the way it needed it to close the case, not the way the actuary needs it. Data from partners and external sources arrives with its own definition of the customer and of risk. The model that brings this together must be explainable to the customer who asks about the price and to the supervisor who asks about the criteria.

The supervisor assesses the process, not only the product

The supervisor asks not only what was sold but how: whether the customer's needs were assessed, what the customer was shown and whether this can be reconstructed years later. The insurer is responsible for the operational resilience of its systems even when an external supplier delivers them. The AI Act adds to this by treating risk pricing in life and health insurance as a high-risk use.

How we help

Diagnosis before investment

We start with an as-is audit: what actually works, where the data sits and what it costs to keep the current state running. The result is a roadmap with an order of magnitude for the budget, not a presentation about transformation. The conversation starts with what can be postponed or simplified, not only with what is worth buying.

Technology advisory

Integration of disparate systems

Billing, asset registers, spatial systems and control systems rarely talk to each other without an intermediate layer. We build integrations and operational portals that bring these sources together into a single picture for the operations team. We design the integration layer so that it can be maintained without us.

Systems delivery

Artificial intelligence over the company's knowledge

Language models over a base of regulations, documentation and ticket history, with control over the sources and a trail showing where each answer came from. This is how we work today for a large energy group. A model that cannot be checked and justified does not enter the production process.

Data and artificial intelligence

Compliance built into the system

KSC audit preparation, SZBI development and internal regulations, carried out together with the technical team. Requirements go into the backlog as acceptance criteria, not into a separate document. The audit trail is created while the system runs, not reconstructed after the fact.

Compliance and risk

Cloud or an in-house server room

Some data cannot leave the client's infrastructure, and that is the starting point, not an exception. We design the architecture so that the data stays where the regulation requires: within the European Union or in the client's infrastructure. The same code and the same release process, regardless of the target environment.

How we start

  1. A conversation about the problem

You describe the process or system that no longer keeps up and what has to change. The conversation costs nothing.

  2. Analysis under an NDA

We examine the process and the systems and hand over a recommendation with a scope of work. You know the scope, deadline and price of the analysis before it starts.

  3. Offer

You receive the scope, team, schedule and price of the implementation. You decide whether we go ahead.

The cost of the analysis is credited towards the implementation if you order it.
