Banking, finance and debt collection

A sector in which a decision about a customer is made in seconds, and still has to be justifiable years later.

A loan, servicing the product and recovering the debt are stages of the same customer history, often run by different institutions and different systems. At each stage the process is regulated, and the system that supports it must stand up to an inspection long after deployment.

In this sector we built an ERP and a CRM with document recognition and automated debt collection, and we automated the distribution of financial products for a client in the European market. On the data side came a market analysis platform with an AI assistant and the consolidation of customer and campaign data.

Key challenges of the sector

People at monitors in an operations room

A core older than the products

The core system has been running for years, and replacing it is a multi-year programme with a single migration weekend at the end. Every new product, channel and reporting obligation is therefore added alongside it, as another layer of integration, and fewer and fewer people know what is inside.

A decision that has to be explainable

Refusing a loan, lowering a limit or referring a case to debt collection must have a justification that can be shown to the customer and to the supervisor. A model that decides faster than a person but cannot show its reasons stops at the risk committee, however well it calculates.

The debtor and the campaign recipient are the same person

The same person is a borrower in the lending system, a recipient in the campaign tool and a debtor in the collection module, each time with slightly different data. Whether they may be offered another product today is known only to whoever has assembled those three pictures by hand, and a mistake ends in a complaint or a breach.

A customer signs a document at a service desk

The process starts with a document

A large part of the process still enters the organisation as a scan or an email attachment: a contract, a statement, a letter from the court, a reply from the bailiff. Before the case reaches the right system, someone has to read the document, classify it and key it in, and it is this stage that sets the pace for everything else.

Supervision reaches the supplier and the cloud

DORA, the outsourcing rules and the requirements for the cloud reach not only the institution but everyone who supplies its technology or runs part of a process on its behalf. The bank is responsible for debt collection outsourced to an external firm and for a system hosted with a cloud provider, so where the data sits and who has access to it is a regulatory decision no less than a technical one.

How we help

Diagnosis before investment

We start with an as-is audit: what actually works, where the data sits and what it costs to keep the current state running. The result is a roadmap with an order of magnitude for the budget, not a presentation about transformation. The conversation starts with what can be postponed or simplified, not only with what is worth buying.

Technology advisory

Integration of disparate systems

Billing, asset registers, spatial systems and control systems rarely talk to each other without an intermediate layer. We build integrations and operational portals that bring these sources together into a single picture for the operations team. We design the integration layer so that it can be maintained without us.

Systems delivery

Artificial intelligence over the company's knowledge

Language models over a base of regulations, documentation and ticket history, with control over the sources and a trail showing where each answer came from. This is how we work today for a large energy group. A model that cannot be checked and justified does not enter the production process.

Data and artificial intelligence

Compliance built into the system

KSC audit preparation, SZBI development and internal regulations, carried out together with the technical team. Requirements go into the backlog as acceptance criteria, not into a separate document. The audit trail is created while the system runs, not reconstructed after the fact.

Compliance and risk

Cloud or an in-house server room

Some data cannot leave the client's infrastructure, and that is the starting point, not an exception. We design the architecture so that the data stays where the regulation requires: within the European Union or in the client's infrastructure. The same code and the same release process, regardless of the target environment.

How we start

  1. A conversation about the problem

You describe the process or system that no longer keeps up and what has to change. The conversation costs nothing.

  2. Analysis under an NDA

We examine the process and the systems and hand over a recommendation with a scope of work. You know the scope, deadline and price of the analysis before it starts.

  3. Offer

You receive the scope, team, schedule and price of the implementation. You decide whether we go ahead.

The cost of the analysis is credited towards the implementation if you order it.
